JADAGRACE IS READY TO TAKE ON HOLLYWOOD!
May 15, 2009 at 09:04 PM

Jadagrace can officially be referred to as the ultimate triple threat in Hollywood.  Not only has she proven to have star quality making her debut in this week’s release of “Terminator Salvation,” but she also is a trained singer and dancer.  “My favorite is probably jazz,” Jadagrace descibes her favorite style of dance.  When she’s not in the dance studio or on set filming, Jadagrace can probably be found with a pen and paper in hand writing lyrics for a song, or with a video camera and a few friends choreographing dance moves to go along with the song she just wrote.  “I’m working on making a dance to ‘Express Yourself,’” she tells us.  (Read More)

With the release of the new “Terminator” film only days away, we can assure you that Jadagrace’s name will become a household name.  In fact, the paparazzi have already spotted the young starlet out and about in Hollywood on a few different occasions.  Carrying her weight alongside stars like Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Helena Bonham Carter, Jadagrace steals every scene and even managed to perform most of her own stunts in the movie.  “Terminator was a really big movie for me,” Jadagrace told us glowing with excitement.

We sat down with Jadagrace at the popular L.A. hotspot Urth Caffe where we sipped on lemonade and discussed her newfound stardom with Terminator: Salvation!

Were you nervous at all going into the project?

No, not really.

Tell us about your audition for the movie and how McG cast you on the spot.

My manager got me an audition for Terminator and it was really nice for him to do that because I’ve wanted to be in a movie so bad.  I went on the audition and they ask me to tell like three sad stories about my life.  I made that audition and me and my mom decided to go to thrift store and buy some star clothes, like a blue shirt with a star on it and a hat with a sewed star on it too. When we got to the audition, my mom took some oil from her car and she put it all over my clothes to make me look like I was sweating and I was dirty.  Before the audition we were just running around the parking lot just to get warmed up and then I went to audition.  Once I walked in there and did the scene, McG thought I was the one because I was prepared and I followed directions really well.

So you got into your character by wearing all the stars apparel?

Yeah, it made me feel more into the character than just wearing (regular) clothes.

Did you do anything fun to celebrate landing the role of Star?

Yeah, we went up to my favorite restaurant, Casa Vega.  We celebrated a lot, but the most fun part was doing the wrap party.

What was that like?

We were at a bar place and they showed the bloopers and they were really funny.

I know that the previous films had an over PG-13 rating, but were you able to see any of the original Terminator films or the television series to help prepare yourself to play Star?

I tried to prepare myself for the role by seeing the first one, but I never knew that was the scariest one.  So, I tried to watch half of it but it really, really freaked me out so I couldn’t watch it anymore.

Have you seen the TV show at all?

I was actually in Albuquerque at a hotel and I saw it on the TV and it looked pretty scary.

Can you tell us a little about the character in the film?

Star has a good heart, like me, and she loves her family. Her best friend, Kyle, he loves her.  She always sticks together with Kyle because she’s the only person he can count on when he needs help.

Who did you work with most in the movie?

Anton, he plays Kyle, and Sam Worthington, he plays Marcus.  Also, Christian Bale, he plays John Connor.

What is he (Christian Bale) like in person?

He is really nice. Every time I needed help, he’d help me on something.  He would only answer to John because he was so into his character, he wouldn’t answer from Christian.  He was really good to work with; he is a really nice guy.

What did you enjoy most about working on the movie?

Well you know every time I’d see a movie on TV or on the scene, I’d always watch the bloopers and I was like, “Oh, one day I want to be in a blooper.” So, probably the bloopers are the best part.

You made the blooper reel then right? What were the bloopers that you were in?

When Anton was hooked onto a rope and the rope scraped him and he fell off the truck. It was scratching the road when we were driving; everyone was laughing, but it wasn’t funny at all to him. The other one was when we were in the car, same scene, Marcus was trying to break the glass, he was supposed to break the glass, but not really, but he actually broke it and it fell every where, but we just keep going.

Explain what the most difficult day of filming was like during the movie shoot?

Probably the day when we were on the rooftop and sand got in my eye. It was way back in my eye and I had to call cut. I was like “cut,” and everybody was like, “what?” and I was like “there’s a piece of sand in my eye and it’s way back there.”  They’re like “okay, we’ll take you to the eye doctor”.  He (McG) cared about it and he sent me to an eye doctor and the eye doctor had to lift up my eye and take it out.

Was that painful?

A little bit; he had to do it with a tweezer.

What were your days like on set?

It was filled with fun and learning because I had to go to class everyday - which class is most important to me - and we learned sign language in sign language class.

Do you remember any sign language?

This means world (demonstrating) and this means away (demonstrating). Those are the only ones I remember because we went to sign language class in the school that he actually taught and we got to see people that talk and did sign language. It was really amazing.

What was your favorite scene to film?

My favorite scene would probably be the stunt scenes; when I had to jump off a truck.

We heard that you did most of your own stunts in the movie.  What was the most difficult stunt that you had to perform?

The most difficult stunt was probably when, well, actually none of them were difficult, but if I had to say, probably the one where they put me way up high and they had me do three flips down and then after they said cut I just kept flipping. I was so fun; then I went backwards, I just couldn’t stop, it was so fun.

You weren’t scared of heights or anything?

No, I’m not scared of heights.

You have worked with some incredible actors on Terminator; did anyone give you any advice on how to handle the industry at all?

Christian Bale. Actually, it was McG. He said every time you don’t want to do something, you don’t have to do it. And I would think, well, I have to do it because then my double’s going to do it.  So, I’d just say, “Okay, I’ll just do it and get it over with.”  I did every thing I could do, except for the really scary things.

What do your friends think about you landing the role, are they excited?

They are really excited.

Tell us about your music and singing career.

I did a song called “Express Yourself” and it’s about my salvation.  I wanted to name it salvation because I just did the movie, so it has a lot of robot sounds and stuff like that.

What type of music do you sing?

R&B and HipHop.

What inspired you to come up with the lyrics for “Express Yourself,” because you co-wrote that song yourself, right?

Yeah, I co-wrote it with another guy named Ron.  I came up with the lyrics because of Terminator for Express Yourself because I want everybody to let themselves go and express themselves.  I got the chorus from my dream to be on Disney Channel and that’s pretty much it.  I got it from Disney Channel, the movie and just expressing people.

What was the recording process like?

Well, actually every time I’d watch Disney Channel, I’d see Hannah Montana in the booth and everybody in the booth and just think that looks so cool.  Finally, I went in the booth and went “wow, this is so fun,” and they just did takes and takes.  It was really a good experience.

What was it like in studio?

Well, actually, every time they’d pump me up, they give me some tea to clean out my throat.  They were amazing people to do a song with because they were really helpful and every time they want it to be right, they’d have me do it over again and over and over until I got it exactly right.

Do you want to do both acting and singing in the future, oh, and dancing because I heard you dance too?

Yeah, acting, singing and dancing I love (to do).

Are you working on any new songs now?

I want to do a song called “Communication Breakdown” because a lot of kids are on the phones and the computers like just crazy.  I also want to do one called “Gotcha.”  I’m almost finished with “Communication Breakdown.”  I’m also writing one just now with my friend, Chase.  I just love writing.  I just wrote this song called “Are You Ready For This.”

At what age did you start learning the piano?

Well, I started playing the piano when I was about sevenish.  This lady named Sheila, she taught me how to play the piano and I was really interested because my fingers were wound up all the time; and my fingers can move really fast.  Then I decided to start practicing singing, so I kind of stopped playing the piano. I’m working on playing the piano with my voice now.

How does set school different from going to regular school?

The difference is, on the set really we do more.  We learned what’s fake what’s not fake, and then we learned some words and how to write in cursive.  On the set it’s really fun just having one person - Anton, he was in school too - but it was really fun to be in school with Kathleen, she was the teacher.  She always made sure when I did something I get it right before I actually started shooting all the scenes I needed to do on the set.  She’d tell the set that I needed to finish my homework before I go on the set.  At my school, if I don’t do my homework they’d say I have to stay in at snack or outside or lunch to do your homework and finish it.

What is your favorite subject to study?

Science.

What is your least favorite subject?

Probably math.

Do your parents make you do any chores around the house?

Actually I’m doing chores to earn money. Each one cost $20.00.  This is not a chore, I just do it automatically because I love doing. I have six dogs and 10 cats. I get into every night petting the cats and brushing them and giving them love; and the dogs, I just love them. I have a dog named Mochie, she’s my favorite. I tried to bring her on set for two months, but she wasn’t a good thing to have on set because she wasn’t professional.  It wasn’t a good thing to have on set because I needed to focus on my acting.  I also have a dog named, Midnight.  She is professional, but she’s really old and I need to give her as much love as I can before she goes.
