While many contenders on American Idol are rarely seen after they depart the show, seventh season finalist Brooke White is making the most of her post-Idol journey.

In 2009, Brooke partnered with American Idol Judge and famed record producer Randy Jackson and together they created a brand new record label titled June Baby Records. "I don't know if people watching from their TV's can tell how personable Randy is. He sits and takes time to talk to everyone," Brooke recalls running into the Idol judge after her season concluded. "He helped me connect with my management and has been a major player and support in my post-Idol life."

Immediately following the launch of the new label, Brooke released her second studio album (the first album post-Idol) "High Hopes & Heartbreak" and the leading single "Radio, Radio" quickly became a fan favorite. She also appeared on the soundtrack for two Family Movie Night features for FOX last year.

Maintaining a successful career as a musician has helped Brooke hover the black hole of forgotten Idols. "It's very difficult to survive and stay present after Idol," Brooke revealed. "It's just a different climate musically and entertainment-wise, and that's why we decide to become more multi-faceted."

Becoming an actress came out of left field for Brooke, but she welcomed the opportunity as it provided for a more versatile approach to her blossoming career. She makes her debut in the fourth Family Movie Night film from Walmart and Procter & Gamble entitled Change of Plans, opposite Joe Flanigan and Phylicia Rashad. "This was the perfect opportunity because it wasn't like I had to leave music behind," admitted Brooke. "It was an integral part of the film and of the character."

In the film, Brooke portrays the character of Sally Danville, a focused young artist looking to break into the music scene. Sally is devastated upon learning that her best friend from college passed away while serving in the Peace Corps. An unexpected twist to the story lands Sally as the legal guardian of her friend's four children - three of whom were adopted from third-world countries. Now Sally and her husband Jason (played by Joe Flanigan) must quickly learn to parent this instant family.

Because acting was an unknown territory for Brooke, she was a bundle of nerves. "My first day on set I hyperventilated a little bit, thinking I don't know if I'm cut out for this," she said. "Then we got to filming and we got a week in and I had been bitten by the acting but and completely fell in love with the experience."

While Brooke may have enjoyed the experience as an artist, she did admit there were a few things she had to get used to. "Probably my 4:30 am pick up every day," she said with a laugh. "I think I was concerned about what if I forget (my lines). I've been known to forget lyrics here or there, or whatever, and I was worried I would forget a line or two, but it really isn't a big deal."

Not only did Brooke get to act on screen, she also teamed up with Randy Jackson behind-the-scenes and co-wrote three new songs for the soundtrack of the film. "I think what you have now is there are other ways to get your music out and other ways to try and break an artist and also continue an artist's career," explained Randy about musicians crossing over into other forms of art. "I think this movie is a testament to that." Brooke co-wrote one of the songs with another former Idol contestant Michael Johns. Other artists on the soundtrack include, The Canyons, Jordin Sparks, Sarah West, Steven Manuel and Charlie Peakcock. "It's a very cool soundtrack," Randy added.

Brooke has already screened the final cut of the film and is pleased with the outcome "I think it's such an endearing, sweet film and it's all about these little moments between the characters I think that really define the story and just the whole them of sometimes the change of plans are better than anything that you could have come up with yourself, like this acting gig."

The big question remains…did Brooke enjoyed this experience enough to do it again? "It would be interesting to try to be a different character," Brooke confessed.

Change of Plans airs tonight on FOX at 8:00 PM.
