WE TALK TO JOEY KING ABOUT HER ROLE IN RAMONA & BEEZUS, OUT ON DVD TODAY!
The wait is finally over as Ramona and Beezus arrives on DVD today! The movie, based off the popular book series by Beverly Clearly, follows the quirky yet lovable Ramona Quimbly (played by Joey King) through her daily mishaps. These unfortunate situations lead to several issues at school and causes a great deal of problems in her household, mostly with her older sister Beezus (played by Selena Gomez). We caught up with the adorable Joey King to discuss the ups and downs of her role and found out what it was like working with the cast. We also got the scoop on some of the cool bonus features that may be found on the DVD!
There are a few deleted scenes featured on the DVD. Can you tell us about any deleted scenes that you know exist?
Yeah, there was a scene that Howie was showing his little watch that he drew on his hand and that was in the class room and right after I opened my lunch box and he said nice doodle. So he had this like this watch on his hand that he drew with pen and he was setting his time twice a day, but they cut that scene out. So, I think you can find that in the deleted scenes, I not sure.
Can you tell us a little bit about Ramona and what it was like playing the character?
Ramona is awesome. She is so out there. She’s so confident in herself. She’s so crazy and wild. I loved playing Ramona, even though I had some similarities and some differences with her. It was so much fun playing Ramona because I actually got to do a lot of things that I never get to at home, like catch a broom on fire. I got to hang upside down from my feet, but I couldn’t do that anywhere because I’m home schooled. That's kind of what it was like playing Ramona. It was really fun to play someone different and she’s just really cool.

What was your favorite scene to film?
My favorite scene to film was definitely the water fight scene. It was sooooo much fun. It was like craziness. I felt like we were all really in a competition because we were all so competitive like who was actually going to win the water fight. And I think the Quimby family totally won.
What was it like working with the cast? You guys seem to have had so much fun on set.
It was really fun working with the whole cast. The whole entire cast was so nice. When one person left set, it was like we were all crying because everyone was sad. We were all close friends.
How has your life changed since the release of Ramona and Beezus in theaters earlier this year?
My life has changed because I get interview calls like this. I went on tour to promote (the movie). Actually, I had never been to New York and I had actually never been to Canada, that’s where I went to film it. And how it also changed my life, I got to meet so many new people and make so many new friends and they changed my life. Everybody that I met has changed my life because they are so sweet and it was just the best meeting everyone.

What was it like getting to meet Beverly Cleary?
Meeting Beverly Cleary was amazing. She is soooo cool. She has so much personality and I just love her. She was so awesome.
You also wrote a song called Ramona Blue for the movie?
It wasn’t put in the movie, sadly. It’s called "Ramona Blue" and it's on iTunes, as well as "Anything At All." It’s really about, even though I have blue eyes and Ramona has brown eyes, there’s a lot of different things that I have in common with Ramona.
Can you talk a little bit about the audition process because I heard your audition is actually going to be on the DVD release?
The audition process was soooo long. That was on the DVD?

Yes. I haven’t seen that yet, but there’s an audition scene for you and one for Selena.
My first audition I was only eight years old. I was too young to play Ramona, but they thought I was good so they called me back. Then they kept on calling me back, and calling me back, and calling me until this last time. We had to do a screen test, which is where they filmed me with real cameras and real props and real people. So, I got to film that with Selena and that was really fun. Then a couple weeks later they called me up and said, “We want to have a meeting with you.” I was nervous; I didn’t think I had the part. I thought they were going to tell me I didn’t have the part, but then the very, very wonderful surprise was that I did get the part. Me and my family went celebrating afterward. So, that was great. That was what the audition process was like because it was so much auditioning; it was like a couple months to finish the audition process.
What was it like filming in Canada? Did you have any favorite places that you liked to visit with your family?
My favorite place to visit (no brainer) was Café Crepe.
What was your favorite dish that you always had there?
I got a different dish every time. But a yummy one is Cinnamon, sugar, strawberries, bananas and butter. It was soooo good.

I have a couple of fan questions here. One of your fans wants to know if it was difficult playing to part of Ramona Quimby at all?
Well, not really, but sometimes there was un-comfortableness. Here’s a good story that is a difficulty about playing Ramona. I had to wear flippers, which are fake teeth, in my mouth every day because if I lost a tooth one night then I couldn’t have it not be there the next day on the camera. Otherwise, it would look weird. I lost six teeth or more on that film. I had to wear these fake teeth to keep it looking normal. Other than that, it was sooooo much fun.
What it was like working with Selena Gomez?
What it was like working with Selena Gomez? Oh my gosh, she is such a nice girl. Honestly, she is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. She is so sweet, and she’s like my sister.
Another fan wants to know who your celeb crush is and what your favorite TV shows are?
I don’t have a celebrity crush, but I do love to listen to a lot of people’s music or watch their TV shows, movies and stuff. But, my favorite TV show is Survivor on channel 2. It is the best show in the world.
What your favorite Selena Gomez song is off of A Year Without Rain?
I’d probably have to say A Year Without Rain.
